Just-cause eviction

Definition

A rule, in some places, requiring a landlord to have a legitimate reason to end a tenancy.

Why it matters to renters

Where it applies, it limits no-reason non-renewals and adds tenant protection.

Example

In a just-cause city, a landlord generally can't end a tenancy without a listed reason.
